Airports

North Alabama is served by 2 commercial airports and 12 general aviation airports. Northwest Alabama Regional Airport in Muscle Shoals provides passenger service to Memphis.

The Port of Huntsville - which includes Huntsville International Airport, the International Intermodal Center and Jetplex Industrial Park - provides multi-modal transportation services.   Huntsville International Airport offers non-stop direct passenger service to 11 major U.S. cities, 7-12 international B747 cargo flights weekly and an intermodal center with rail and truck service.  This complex is your complete global logistics gateway and park.

Airport Sites

Air Cargo:

Air cargo is primarily serviced at the Huntsville International Airport. The airport offers many features that make it convenient for shipping by air and expandable for new operations.

  • Runways: 2 runways, 12,600 feet (second longest in the Southeast only to Miami) and 10,000 feet.
  • Facilities: 1,000,000 square foot apron for loading and unloading and a 200,000 square foot warehouse building, both with room to expand.  In addition, there is a new 92,000 square foot facility under construction.
  • Foreign Trade Zone: The airport is Foreign Trade Zone #83, benefits include the elimination of some duties. Learn More.
  • Service: 24-hour service, ground support equipment includes 2 main deck loaders, on site Customs and USDA inspectors as well as freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Transportation: Interstate access and on-site intermodal center and rail operations.

Passengers Service:

Huntsville International Airport is served by US Airways, Delta, Continental, American, and Northwest Airlines. Northwest also serves the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport with flights to Memphis.

Huntsville International Airport offers flights to and from Atlanta, Washington D.C. (National and Dulles), Chicago, Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, Detroit, Charlotte and Dallas.

International Intermodal Center:

Serviced by Norfolk Southern, the International Intermodal Center is connected to Norfolk Southern’s mainline by a direct spur. Two 45-ton overhead gantry cranes work to move containers between rail cars, trucks and air cargo terminals. The center features a 45 acre depot yard with 24-hour security and 6 miles of railroad track.
