The Tennessee River is one of North Alabama’s most important economic and infrastructure assets, supporting transportation, industry, water supply, and energy generation throughout the region. Numerous public ports with channel depths of nine feet or greater provide access to the river’s main navigation channel and connections to the deep-water ports of Mobile and New Orleans. The river also provides an abundant and reliable water supply for communities and industry while playing a central role in TVA’s power system, supporting significant electricity generation throughout North Alabama.
